Boubakary Soumare is in high demand. According to reliable French outlet L’EQUIPE, Lille have received 6 offers for their star midfielder. In his 3rd season for the side, the Frenchman has gone from strength to strength with Les Dogues. So much so, the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham are interested. The latest news fresh hot off the press from Sky Sports is that the Red Devils will compete with Chelsea for his signature this month. But who is the 20 year old that is starring in Ligue 1? We’ll give you a run down:
Born in the northern suburbs of Paris, Soumaré joined the PSG academy at 12 years-old, already showing promise in a box to box role. However, a lack of first team action for the French champions meant that, at 18, he decided to move to Lille to get some action in Ligue 1. A decision that has proven to be a success for both parties.
The 20 year-old has been putting in performances in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League, making him a prized asset. However with the January transfer window now open, Lille will want to get what as much as they can for their talented midfielder. As we know, you always have to pay a premium in the winter window. Teams like United are crying out for a midfielder.
The French side want the money and the Red Devils need reinforcements. Seems like the perfect match. But the final decision comes down to the PSG youth product. Playing at the Bernabeu or joining the chaos at Old Trafford?
Boubakary Soumare – Style of Play
With a surprising yard of pace, Soumaré’s 6ft 2 frame means that he is able to escape aggressive pressure with a relative ease. Furthermore, when he breaks into space, it’s his awareness to distribute the ball accurately and decisively that has made him such a crucial player for LOSC Lille this season. A similar-type player to Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele perhaps? Of course the North London side’s record signing has been cursed by injury. But when fully fit, he’s a joy to watch, like Soumare.
Averaging 1.2 tackles and 0.9 interceptions (WhoScored) not only shows his defensive prowess, but also his ability to screen players without the need to make a challenge. Also, an interesting statistic is the rise in dribbles per 90 when playing in Champions League games (1.4 to 3.2). This shows his comfortable nature when playing in a big tie for his club; having the ability to step up and take the game by the scruff of the neck.
Boubakary Soumare has options on the table. Join Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge. Or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford. Whoever gets him, they’ll be getting an exciting player, that’s for sure…
