He’s just turned 17, has every big club on strings and is dominating Ligue 1. In fact today, L’ÉQUIPE have reported that Real Madrid are stepping up their interest in the teenage prodigy. High praise for a highly rated player. But who exactly is Eduardo Camavinga? We’ll give you a brief summary:
Born in Angola, Camavinga moved to France at the age of two. This gives him dual nationality with both countries – something to think about in the very immediate future it seems. His rise may seem dramatic, mainly because it is. Whilst impressing for the Rennes youth team, it has been in the first team where he has seemed to really step up his game.
The lights were on and the stage was set. Paris St. Germain against Stade Rennais. Few would have anticipated the performance that we were about to see from Eduardo Camavinga. Dominant and impenetrable in every aspect, the youngster completely shut down almost every PSG attack.
What capped it off was his assist for the winner: a sublime lofted ball through the PSG defence. It was the delicate touch, combined with his ruggedness that launched him on almost everyone in football’s radar.
Eduardo Camavinga – Style of Play
Averaging a honking 4.3 tackles per game in Ligue 1 (WhoScored), his destruction of oppositions attacks can draw him comparisons to N’Golo Kanté and perhaps even Nicolò Barella, but Camavinga has something else. Kanté has worked hard on his final ball and his end product, but I can tell you this with confidence: his ceiling is miles below Camavinga’s.
With a burst of acceleration to escape the opposition’s press, his 6ft frame and natural physicality could allow him adapt to a Premier League move easier than perhaps others would. A slight issue could come with how one-footed he is. But this shouldn’t need to be addressed straight away. He’s just 17.
There’s a reason every big club in Europe is on a wild goose chase for the youngster. Pep is determined to have him and Barca/Real always require more central midfielders
