LOSC Lille seem to just have a conveyor belt of talent in their system it seems. They’ve lost Nicolas Pepe, Rafael Leao and Thiago Mendes in the summer just passed. The French club have another prized asset on their hands; Victor Osimhen. But the likes of Barcelona, Bayern and AC Milan are circling Les Dogues for their new star.

Despite only joining Lille in the 19/20 summer transfer window, Osimhen’s fast start to the season has put Europe’s elite on alert. Bagging 9 goals and racking up 3 assists in 17 games in his first season of French football might highlight that the Nigerian forward could, and perhaps, should test himself at a higher level of football.

Scouted by Wolfsberg from the Ultimate Strikers Academy in Nigeria, he made his name when he went out on loan to Belgian club RSC Charleroi, where he scored 20 goals and assisted 4 times in 36 games for the Belgian outfit. He won the CAF Youth Player of The Year award at just 16-years-old. Other holders/nominees within this award include Frank Kessie and Achraf Hakimi.

Victor Osimhen – Style of Play

Victor’s game can be described as the perfect mix of pace and power. Oh, and a little finesse sprinkled in there for good measure. The 6-ft centre forward has displayed all the key attributes as the focal point for the attack.

UNSTOPPABLE FORCE: Compilation of Victor’s most impressive moments so far

The strength to hold up play, the ability to stretch the game with his pace, adept with both feet. This inevitably means that Lille’s Number 7 would be effective in many roles, instead of the one-dimensional high potential forward we normally see within this archetype of player. He could be described as a more refined version of Divock Origi at the 2014 World Cup.

This is bound to create interest, and it has. The Bavarians and the Blaugrana are both looking for their long-term replacements for their star strikers. The inescapable Father Time will hit Lewandowski and Suarez respectively, and they have to start preparing for it.

However, he is less likely to get game time for both clubs, which brings AC Milan into the equation. With the Rossoneri buying Rafael Leao from Lille in the summer, they might have the upper hand at the bargaining table due to good relations between the clubs. Player power is real though, and the chance to play for historic clubs such as the Spanish and the German champions do not come along everyday. Tough choices for the young player.

According to Sky Sports today, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are also now interested in Osimhen. With the quality of the Nigerian and how many clubs are looking at him, a January move is unlikely. Unless someone makes a ridiculous offer Lille can’t refuse.

Dealing with malaria in the summer of 2018, which meant he was rejected from Club Brugge and Zulte Waregem, it is highly likely that Victor’s mindset is to seize the day, as tomorrow is not always for certain. Only the Nigerian will know himself where he would like to go. But it seems as if Lille have already succumbed to the prospect of losing him…

When you are a club like Lille, it is difficult to keep hold of a striker who scores goals… we’ll be under assault…
