The Brazilian league is a conveyor belt of talent. Some of the greatest players of all time have come from the region and whenever a young prospect comes from Latin America, they come with excitement, promise and expectation. Everton Soares is the latest expected to leave Brazil for Europe. It seems like destiny for him to move to the other Everton in world football. Now, that could be a possibility in this window!
The Gremio forward is exactly what you’d expect from a Brazilian talent. Quick, full of flair, skillful, technically gifted. But Soares isn’t a hidden gem dwelling in the Brazilian lower divisions or fresh out of an academy with little experience. He’s, in fact, quite established on the main stage:
23 years of age and 100 appearances is hardly a ‘raw’ talent, The winger has won the Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores with Gremio and has played a large part in both. But most of all, he’s earned 14 caps for Brazil, won the Copa America this year and was in fact the tournament’s Golden Boot winner!
Taking into account all his achievements thus far, it seems baffling how Soares is still in his native Brazil. Arsenal were heavily linked to the Selecao star over the summer, but a move never materialized. Now according to Sky Sports, Everton are linked with Everton. So satisfying.
But if you’re still not convinced, here’s why Soares could end up on the blue of Merseyside:
Everton Soares – Style of Play
There are compilations upon compilations showcasing the talent of the Brazilian international. As I aforementioned, he’s fast, skillful and very good on the ball. A staggering 3.1 dribbles per game in the Brazilian league emphasises how threatening he is either on the right, left or even sometimes centrally.
But what’s impressive with Soares is that his end product has improved significantly. 2.8 shots and 0.9 key passes per game translates into his output over the last two seasons (Stats courtesy of WhoScored.com):
Everton Soares statistics (ALL COMPETITIONS) 2018-2019:
2018: 51 appearances, 19 goals and 3 assists
2019: 49 appearances, 20 goals and 7 assists
He’s only getting more prolific and at 23 years of age, is really coming into his own. If there’s a time to sign the attacker, it’s now. The type of player to get the fans on their feet and win games with a moment of magic.
