Valentino Lazaro has had an odd upbringing. The son of an Angolan father and Greek mother, his rise began almost 300km away from his hometown of Graz, Austria. Who else but Red Bull Salzburg? Following a spell in Germany and now Italy, what exactly does the midfielder offer his new potential suitors: Newcastle United?
Newcastle United have announced Lazaro via their Twitter, stating it as a loan move.
Valentino Lazaro – Style of Play
Lazaro is an interesting one. Initially marketed as a winger, Antonio Conte has converted him into a wing-back in order to fit him into his five at the back-formation. Pacy and always on the move, the video provided shows his willingness to give and go with more advanced forwards. This is something that could be highly beneficial for Newcastle, with Joelinton leading their line.
With just three starts in Serie A this season, Lazaro is hunting for some first-team action. A Euros ahead of the wide man means that he is desperate to show the Austrian selectors exactly what he offers.
During his two year spell at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin, Lazaro averaged almost two key passes per game, showing that he does indeed have value. This could significantly benefit United, who possess one of the lowest xG’s in the Premier League.
I really do hope the best for Valentino Lazaro. Joining Inter at a time where the manager clearly has his starting eleven nailed down. Where and how often he will play in the north-east of England is another question altogether, but you’d hope it would be way more regularly.
For Newcastle, signing Lazaro has added to Nabil Bentaleb. A fine pair of acquisitions.
