Premier League transfer roundup: Targett to Villa, Everton interest in Ocampos, Southampton close in on Che Adams

Targett to have medical ahead of Villa move

After being at St Mary’s since 2003, Matt Targett looks set to be off to the West Midlands.

Sky Sports have reported that Aston Villa have agreed an £11 million fee with Southampton, potentially rising to £17 million in add-ons. The Englishman has spent his whole career with the Saints, coming through their fabled youth system and recently establishing himself in the first team.

He won Southampton Young Player of the Year in 2014/15 and was a key part of Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League in 2017/18 where he spent a season on loan. With Tyrone Mings set to return to parent club Bournemouth for the upcoming season, Targett is more than good enough replacement for the Villans.

The move benefits both parties with the 23 year old and former England U21 player perhaps needing games week in week out at Villa Park to help stake a claim for the England squad in the future.

Everton interest in Ligue 1 winger

After another decent season in the French top flight, Lucas Ocampos is reportedly subject of interest from the blue of Merseyside.

According to Le 10 Sport, Everton are interested in bringing the Marseille winger to Goodison Park as Marco Silva looks to bolster his wide options. The Argentinian has spent the vast majority of his career thus far in France with Monaco and Marseille, alongside a couple of loan spells in Italy.

Over the last two seasons, Ocampos has performed well with 23 goal contributions in 65 Ligue 1 games. Though not exceptional stats by any means, the 24 year old winger could prove to be a useful option for the Toffees and is unlikely to cost more than £20 million.

Adams close to Premier League move

After a stellar 22 goal campaign in the Championship, Birmingham striker Che Adams looks like he’ll be playing Premier League football next season.

Sky Sports report that Southampton are close to agreeing a fee in the region of £15 million with the Blues after their initial bid for the striker was turned down. He is now expected to agree personal terms in the next 24 hours with a move to St Mary’s imminent.

Adams performed superbly for a mediocre Birmingham side, carrying them through games with his goals and helping them survive relegation with a 17th place even with a points deduction. At 22 years of age, he has good potential and would be an improvement on the likely to be departing and injury prone Charlie Austin.

With Danny Ings also injury prone, the acquisition of the Englishman would help bolster the Saints’ attack and help Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side perhaps do more than scrape relegation for 2019/20. Adams was also subject of strong interest from Burnley during the January transfer window.
