Erling Håland announced himself on the European scene in scintillating style. The 19 year old was nothing short of electrifying as he hammered in a first half hat trick on his UCL debut to catalyse a thumping 6-2 win for RB Salzburg against Genk. Truly the Champions League debut any young player would dream to have.
He is now the target of almost every top club in Europe, including: Manchester United, Juventus, Paris St. Germain and Real Madrid. But now the Norwegian’st most likely destination the Bundesliga. However, not to champions Bayern Munich, instead to a club he should know quite well.
Sky Sports have reported the striker is considering a move to RB Leipzig, obviously part of the Red Bull Group like Salzburg. Because of the connection between the two clubs, a move could be organised for a cheaper fee than previously quoted by news outlets. Moreover, Haaland working under Julian Nagelsmann could really bring the best out of one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
UPDATE – Erling Haaland has signed for Borussia Dortmund!
He became the third youngest hat trick scorer in the competition’s history behind Rooney and Raul. Not a bad bunch to be in the same sentence as.
The son of Alf-Inge Haland has been in ridiculous form this season with 17 goals in just 9 games. Ridiculous figures even if it’s the Austrian League. Certainly a breakout season for him, but I’m proud to say we’ve known about the Leeds born striker for a while…
Above is part of an article we did on the Rise of Norwegian Football a few months back. It’s a niche topic that major football blogs or news outlets don’t tend to delve into, but the Nordic country has produced some of Europe’s most exciting prospects. Exhibit A: Erling Håland.
The Salzburg forward has certainly hit that ‘killer level’ we thought he had to work on. His now former Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly read our article on him and now he’s the epitome of clinical.
Earlier this year in May, Erling Haaland scored 9 (yes 9) goals in Norway U20s’ 12-0 win against Honduras. A U20 World Cup record for the most goals scored by a single player in a match. That’s killer level for you. Oh and he’s got 4 assists. There’s nothing the boy can do wrong at the moment.
The 6ft 4 beast has the potential to be the complete striker. Pace, power, strength, intelligence, ball control and clinical finishing. Perhaps we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves, considering the caliber of opposition he has faced.
The true test will now be in Westfalen. Whether he can prove himself there remains to be seen. Regardless, the early signs suggest Erling Haaland could be a top player. Let’s hope the Norwegian international can meet the sky high expectations…
