Football is a global language. Whichever country you’re from, whichever team you support, we’re all united by our love for the beautiful game. There are stories that bring the whole footballing world to a stand still. Jonas Gutierrez’s fairy tale return to Newcastle after his fight with cancer. Jermain Defoe’s heartwarming relationship with Bradley Lowery. Didier Drogba ending civil war in his native Ivory Coast. Juan Mata‘s selfless Common Goal charity. We could be here for hours with the great stories of these model professionals. Max Taylor is the latest edition to this long list, and he’s just 19 years of age.
The centre back has fought hard in the last year to be where he is today. September last year, he received the heartbreaking news of being diagnosed with cancer. Even hearing the word just makes you unnerved and feel uneasy. Going through it is unimaginable.
3 months later, the doctors gave Max the news him, his family, his friends, Manchester United and the whole footballing world longed for. It would be a long road back, but the Englishman was healthy and ready to begin the road back to the sport.
Fast forward a year, Max Taylor had returned to training and played his first game for the Under 23s. Now in November, he’s in the first team squad for teh game against Astana! Remarkable by such a young man to go through so much and return healthily in the space of 12 months. A story that hopefully inspires anyone who is feeling down and struggling in life, to persevere and believe. The 19 year old has gone from rock bottom right back to where he deserves to be. And he’s not finished yet…
“The cancer is something that has happened, but it’s not going to be what people remember me for.”Max Taylor on his return to Manchester United
We share the sentiments of the whole footballing world when we wish Max Taylor all the best. To have the mental strength to defeat cancer and return to the beautiful game, I’m sure with that same attitude, he can make it at the top level.
