Kevin De Bruyne: The best player in the Premier League

Jose Mourinho letting Kevin De Bruyne leave Chelsea in 2014 is one of his biggest mistakes as a manager. Since returning to the Premier League in 2015, the man has been unplayable. Without a doubt, world class in every single season he’s spent with Manchester City. £55 million seems like an absolute bargain now. Talk about the one that got away for The Blues…

The Belgian international has confirmed his status as the league’s best player this season. Not that it was much in doubt. 6 goals and 10 assists in just 16 games reflects the sheer dominance of De Bruyne in the final third. He’s the focal point of the Citizens’ attack and makes the game look so easy. But let’s take a deeper look into the genius of the former Wolfsburg midfielder:

Kevin De Bruyne – Style of Play

De Bruyne defines the term technically gifted. Incredible striking ability, a ridiculous passing range and high footballing IQ that puts him a step ahead of everyone else on the pitch. Coupled with good physical strength to hold up the ball and a decent turn of pace, he is the complete midfielder.

More on how he strikes the ball, when the 28 year old hits the ball, it stays hit. The goal against Newcastle a couple weeks back and his brace today against Arsenal. De Bruyne is the sweetest striker of the ball since Steven Gerrard in my opinion. The combination of power and precision makes the goals he scores so crisp. Teams make the mistake of giving him far too much space outside of the box. Even if they do stay compact and make it tight, he’ll still find a way through. Ridiculous player.

Now let’s talk about his unbelievable passing. Pinpoint accuracy in finding his teammates enables him to have the versatility to play anywhere in the centre of the pitch. Whether that be further forward as an attacking midfielder or a deep-lying playmaker. Even on the wing with his deadly crosses. Averaging a staggering 4 key passes per game in the league, it’s no wonder that Raheem Sterling has scored as many goals as he has. De Bruyne just puts it on a plate for him time after time and he converts most of them. A scintillating partnership between the Englishman and the Belgian.

One of the best to grace the league?

Kevin De Bruyne

It’s such a shame that injuries have restricted the game time of Kevin De Bruyne over the last few seasons. Touch wood now, he stays injury free for the rest of 2019/20. The man epitomises the beautiful game and is a pleasure to watch for a neutral. I haven’t even mentioned he’s good with both feet too, the list of compliments for this man is endless. If he can stay injury free, stay at Manchester City and continue to perform at the level he has done since arriving at the Etihad, he could go down as one of the Premier League’s best ever midfielders.
