Jadon Sancho is arguably the most sought after teenager over the last decade. He’s terrorising Bundesliga and European defences week in week out at just 19 years of age. What’s frightening is the Englishman is already among Europe’s elite wingers, let alone showing glimpses of brilliance to build on in the future. The pace, dribbling and most impressive of all, consistent WORLD CLASS end product. Sancho is already worth his weight in gold and the transfer fees being talked about are a testament to that.
“This kid is the truth. He’s got everything. He’s got skill, pace, tenacity, desire, commitment, he gets goals.”Rio Ferdinand on Sancho in 2018 (BT Sport)
The list of club’s linked with the golden boy is endless. Bayern, both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, you name it. Everyone wants this frightening former Watford academy product before he starts challenging for the Balon d’Or.
The latest news to break today, according to Sky Sports, is that he WILL leave Dortmund in the summer, with Manchester United keen on a deal. This is massive news to break just days after the January window. Will the Red Devils get their man?
Either way, here’s our profile on the generational talent, if you didn’t know how good he is already:
New season, an even better Sancho
It only took one game in the German Supercup for Jadon Sancho to prove he wasn’t a one season wonder. Not that many people doubted him anyway. Fast forward to now on Christmas Eve, the prodigy is 1 goal away from matching his tally in all competitions from the whole of last season. I’ve not even mentioned the assists yet…
We don’t have to write an article justifying the interest and hype surrounding Sancho. We’ve done it in the past HERE, if you’re interested. He’s truly outstanding. But we’ll do it anyway, in case you have the slightest doubts over his quality:
Jadon Sancho – Style of Play
As I mentioned earlier, the Manchester City youth product is lightning quick with excellent dribbling. His footwork makes him an absolute nightmare to deal with one on one when he’s running at you with pace. Or when he’s chopping and changing direction, to line himself up for a shot. On top of that, the 19 year old is more than comfortable shooting with his left foot too. Where do you go from there as a defender?
Where wingers struggle when they are young, Sancho thrives. His confidence but also calmness with the ball at his feet makes him almost like a poacher when he’s in the box. The confidence and belief to walk away from Manchester City at 17 years old, demanding playing time at a top club is reflected in his play. He’s ruthless in the box. Multiple times in the video above, he finishes well, into the far corners almost with ease.
Sancho has averaged 1.9 shots per game in 2019/20 so far, a testament to his confidence but also his intelligent movement to get into goal scoring positions. A skill that is so underrated in today’s game. Look at Raheem Sterling. Many of his goals are ‘tap-ins’. However, the movement he makes to get into those positions, to make the goal hard to miss is among the best in world football. Sancho’s movement is also excellent, hence why he’s up there with the best in terms of output.
The winger, alongside being a goal scorer, is perhaps an even better creator. Averaging 2.5 key passes a game in the Bundesliga this season, Sancho seems to know exactly what pass to place, when and the weight to put on it. Several times in the video, he cuts it back to a teammate in open space or drills a cross into the box from wide. Coupled with his ability to thread inch perfect balls through compact defences, the range of Sancho’s passing is outstanding. It’s therefore no surprise he already has 9 assists this season. Truly one of the best in the world, at just 19.
What lies ahead?
If he does move to Old Trafford, what a signing it would be. From the Glazers’ perspective, it would get the fans back on side an truly believe that ambition is still present on the red side of Manchester. But more importantly, on the pitch. 19 years old with the world at his feet. The potential is enormous for Jadon Sancho to dominate world football for years to come.
The team he would be coming into wouldn’t be blockbuster as such. But this could be the big signing United need. Like Van Dijk to Liverpool. Either way, it’s going to be a long few months until the summer window opens…
