Mikel Arteta’s first transfer window, similar to the lifting of the Chelsea ban, has the London club linked to just about everyone. Enter Franck Kessie. After joining AC Milan on a two year loan from Atalanta, he signed permanently last summer. Whether a deal will be done is too early to say, but we will give all the eager Arsenal fans what they want: A concise report on who Kessie is, and what he could possibly bring to the red of North London.
According to Sky Italy (via Sempre Milan), Kessie is valued at €25m (£21.3m). A fair sum in an inflated market.
Born and bred in the Ivory Coast, it took Serie A side Atalanta’s vast scouting network to locate and sign Frank Kessie on a three-year contract. That was in 2015. Two years later and he was a regular for one of Italy’s biggest and most fabled clubs: AC Milan. From then, he began to impress even more. Now, could a move to the Premier League await the Ivorian talent?
Franck Kessie – Style of Play
Supreme balance and remarkable strength, Franck Kessie is nigh impossible to knock off the ball. As shown multiple times in the video, he shrugs off the opposition players with ease. An absolute unit in the centre of the pitch.
He stands at 6ft tall and has an incredible engine allowing him to cover long distances regularly. Defensively he’s solid, winning 1.4 tackles per game and dominating the midfield battle nine times out of ten. But it’s not just pace, aggression and power, the Ivorian has finesse too. A decent dribbler, good passer of the ball and even a tidy finisher.
This season has seen steady figures, especially going forward. With 1.1 key passes per game and a shot per game, the energetic ball-destroyer has got into more advanced positions. A development to his game. Overall, he’s an imperious box-to-box midfielder with a high ceiling.
There’s no doubt that Franck Kessie can go all the way to the top, and perhaps Arsenal is the step he needs to progress even further. For such a reasonable price in the modern day market too, I think it’s a no brainer. But they might have company with Tuttosport claiming both Spurs and arch-rivals Inter are interested in him too. Either way, whoever gets the 23 year old has a fine player on their hands.
