Despite the striker himself wanting to stay in the Spanish capital and Atletico wanting to keep him, Chelsea may be forced to end Alvaro Morata’s so far pleasant stint in Spain.
The striker, signed for £60 million in 2017 from Real Madrid, struggled to adapt to the harsh lights of the Premier League with a below par 15 goals in all competitions (2017/18) and failing to establish himself in Maurizio Sarri’s plans last season.
This saw the Spaniard return to his homeland on an 18 month loan to the other side of Madrid with Los Rojiblancos. Morata has found his confidence in front of goal again at the Wanda Metropolitano, whilst also enjoying his football. It seemed like he wouldn’t return to Stamford Bridge after Sarri was reunited with former Napoli man Gonzalo Higuain.
However, after the premature departure of the Italian to Turin and Chelsea not exercising to option to buy Higuain permanently, The Blues have a dilemma. Their appeals to delay their transfer ban have been unsuccessful and now their attack is incredibly thin with Hazard gone, Hudson-Odoi injured and aging wingers.
Goal suggest that Atletico want to keep the former Juventus and Real forward, but there may be an option for Chelsea to recall Morata from his 18 month loan. Morata himself may not be best pleased by a move back to London, but desperate times call for desperate measures for the Blues.
Try co-running a football blog when one of your team is getting wasted in Ayia Napa whilst the other has been on an extended break since January Alvaro. That’s proper stress mate.
Jokes aside, do you think Chelsea should recall Alvaro Morata and if so, would he thrive in a blue shirt potentially under Frank Lampard? Let us know on Twitter @TasteofFtbl
