Despite strong links to Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus this summer, it now looks like the best young defender in the world will be leaving the Eredivisie for Ligue 1.
Reliable source Di Marzio has reported that PSG are set to win the race for Matthijs De Ligt, after what seemed like an imminent move to Blaugrana for the Ajax defender stumbled in the last few weeks. Links to Manchester United also died down in the last few days.
The 19 year old captained an exuberant Ajax side to a historic domestic double and a Champions League semi final in a fairy tale season for one of Europe’s most respected clubs.
Yet it was expected that De Ligt, alongside the plethora of talent in the De Godenzonen squad would be broken up in this summer window, similar to Monaco from a few years ago.
Even though Frenkie De Jong chose to leave for the Nou Camp, De Ligt is reportedly edging ever closer to a move to the Parc Des Princes in a surprising turn of events. It is suggested by Di Marzio they offered significantly higher wages than Barcelona did.
