After a difficult 2 seasons at the Camp Nou where struggled to win over the fans or establish himself fully in the first team, Andre Gomes got his career back on track with Everton. Now he’s signing permanently for them.
Sky Sports News reports that The Blues have agreed a £22 million fee with Barcelona for the Portuguese international. This comes after Gomes impressed in Marco Silva’s side last season in 2018/19, rediscovering the form that earned him a move from Valencia to the Blaugrana in the first place.
Everton have done brilliantly to secure the former Benfica midfielder’s signature with various clubs also interested in the midfielder. Reports from a few weeks ago suggested Tottenham were attempting to hijack his permanent move to Goodison Park, yet the Toffees look like they have got their man.
Marco Silva’s side had a campaign of mixed emotions last season in the English top flight. An initial slow start and uninspiring performances in the first half of the season meant some fans were already losing patience with their new manager.
However an upturn in form saw them keep 8 clean sheets in their last 11 games and finish the season very strongly in 8th, only behind the big 6 and Wolves.
