Willian has been on the radar of the Blaugrana for more than two seasons now, with Chelsea rejecting bids in excess of £50 million several times. Now the Catalan club are back again for the Brazilian alongside Atletico Madrid.
Sky Sports News reports that The Blues have rejected a fresh £35 million bid from both La Liga clubs for their winger. This seems like a strange move, particularly for Barca with their already surplus number of forwards, with the likes of Phillipe Coutinho rumored with a move back to the Premier League.
Willian has been at Stamford Bridge for 6 years now, since signing from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013. He’s been a great servant for the London club, playing a part in two Premier League title triumphs, as well as domestic cups and most recently the Europa League.
Yet at 30 years of age, he is not getting any younger or better and therefore rejecting such large bids is baffling from my perspective. Yet on the other hand, having just sold Eden Hazard, losing another wide player whilst having a transfer ban could make their squad a lot thinner, reducing their chances of Top 4 next season.
We have an article on whether The Blues should attempt to gain Barcelona winger Malcom in exchange for Willian HERE.
