After announcing he would leave Atletico Madrid over 1 month ago, it seems like Antoine Griezmann’s wish for a move away has finally come true.
The World Cup winner has looked likely to leave Los Rojiblancos for the last 2-3 seasons now, but has stayed put at the Wanda Metropolitano. Yet after 5 years since his move there, it has all but been officially confirmed he will now play for the Blaugrana.
Atletico Madrid’s CEO Gil Marin confirmed that Griezmann will be playing his football for Barcelona at the Nou Camp next season.
“I am very clear about where he is going to play, it is known since March, at Barcelona”.Gil Marin on the Frenchman’s transfer status, speaking to a Spanish radio station
The striker’s release clause will drop to £107 million on July 1st, which is likely to be the date of his departure from the Spanish capital.
His relationship with the Atleti fans has soured over the last two months, with an abrupt announcement of leaving leading to Griezmann being booed in what is now almost certain to be his final home game for the club.
For Barcelona, this move will help ease the burden of putting the ball in the back of the net for Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, whilst also confirming the departure of one of their wide players (Coutinho, Malcom or Dembele)
