Despite reportedly agreeing personal terms earlier this week, a fee for Matthijs De Ligt has not been agreed between Juventus and Ajax.
Europe’s most exciting young defender reportedly agreed a 5 year deal with the Bianconeri earlier this week worth €12 million per year, yet the Italian champions have not met Ajax’s valuation of their prized asset. Sky Sports claim the Dutch champions will demand €75 million for De Ligt, which will make him the second most expensive defender of all time behind Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk.
Dare I say it, it seems like Juventus have won the race for their man despite the fierce competition presented by Barcelona, PSG and Manchester United. Yet the quicker they agree this fee the better, considering PSG were rumoured to have won the race a week ago but are now all of a sudden no longer the front runners.
Signing the Dutch international makes perfect sense for Juventus. He’s already one of Europe’s best defenders at just 19 years of age, truly a generational talent. De Ligt is the perfect successor for the imperious Giorgio Chiellini who will be thinking of hanging up his boots in the coming years. We have an article on why De Ligt should choose Juventus HERE
