Adama Traore: Ex-Barcelona talent finally shining for Wolves

Adama Traore has ALWAYS been highly rated. Coming through La Masia and making his La Liga debut at 17. Joining Aston Villa in the same year. Showing the ridiculous athleticism and talent he has for Middlesborough in the Championship before joining Wolves in 2018. However, the cloud that has been hanging over the Spaniard’s head is his end product. Does he have the footballing brain to reach his potential? Can he make use of his ridiculous physicality and dribbling stats? Based on 2019/20 so far, the future looks bright for Adama.

It feels like the 23 year old has been around forever. We did an article on him a while back HERE, emphasising how this Wolves move was a chance to hit the heights people think he can. 7.3 dribbles per game for Middlesborough in 2017/18 is obscene (WhoScored). Not even an exaggeration, he was the best dribbler in the world that season. Significantly better than Lionel Messi‘s 5.1 dribbles per game! Even now, a cool 4.9 dribbles per game this season for the Wanderers is among the best in Europe. But Traore is finally shining, because he is making the dribbles worthwhile.

Adama Traore – The rough diamond finally shining

We’ve seen glimpses of end product by the winger during his time with Boro. 5 goals and 10 assists in 2017/18 isn’t bad at all. However bearing in mind the La Masia graduate’s ceiling, it wasn’t spectacular. Now under Nuno Espirito Santo, he is thriving. 4 goals and 4 assists in 18 Premier League games is very promising. Far better than just 2 goals contributions in the whole of last season.

It’s not just how many goals and assists he’s got, it’s the significance and who he’s got them against. 3 of those 4 goals have been against Manchester City of all teams. The other in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. A brace at the Etihad and an absolute pile driver at Molineux played instrumental roles in Wolves doing the double over the Citizens. Granted Pep’s side haven’t exactly been watertight at the back. But Traore has rose to the big occasion multiple times now. He’s not just producing, he’s producing in the biggest moments. That 3-2 comeback will live long in the memory of Wanderers fans, all started by this absolute monster on the wing.

The potential is MASSIVE

The electrifying pace, outrageous strength and incredible ball control are finally being utilised properly by Adama Traore. His decision making, including his calmness in front of goal, has improved so much. At the rate, he’s going, the man could become one of Europe’s best wingers. You don’t come through La Masia for nothing, he has everything he needs to succeed.

“A big, big talent. You would never have thought he is that young, but he is still very young, and now he has found it. It was always clear it would happen one day, and now it has. Good for Wolves!”

Jurgen Klopp on Traore (Daily Mail)

It’s just a question now of consistency and producing the goods, something we now know he can do. For the neutral fan too, the former Middlesborough attacker is such a joy to watch. When he gets the ball, there’s this excitement and anticipation to see what he’s going to do next. You only get this feeling with special players and Traore is certainly one of them.
