According to Football London, Layvin Kurzawa is strongly linked to Arsenal, with his contract running out in the summer. This should simply be case closed, the player moves in July. However, the problem lies in that Arsenal want him now. They want to bring him in to help cover the recurring defensive injuries. If it can be done it or not remains to be seen but nevertheless, we look at who exactly Kurzawa is, and what he can bring to Arsenal.
A deal dating back to the Emery era, Kurzawa was vaguely linked to a move many months back. Now, with Arteta in charge, it could all become reality.
Layvin Kurzawa – Style of Play
You can kind of see it from this grainy video, but Kurzawa is an attacking full-back. Disappearing from position, he often finds himself free in the opponent’s penalty area. Whilst it can be a good thing (especially in big moments), the Premier League is a merciless beast and counter-attacking teams can easily overload on the break.
Technique-wise, he is superb. Heavily left footed, but still more than adept at cutting inside and brushing the ball off the outside of his boot, Kurzawa has been an integral cog in the Paris St. Germain machine . This season, however, the 27-year-old has had a slightly reduced role, featuring eleven times, but five of those came from the bench. Furthermore, he is yet to significantly contribute in any way going forward in Thomas Tuchel’s side, utilised more for his good passing as part of the build up play.
All these attributes lean towards a decent move for Arsenal. An experienced player in their prime, if Arteta can give the Frenchman more minutes, then we could see a top, top player develop. Attacking and overlapping regularly, he already seems moulded into the Arsenal DNA; it’s just whether you think he is an upgrade on Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney.
