James Rodriguez: Can Real Madrid outcast reignite his career?

According to the Daily Mail (who trusts them?), Everton are leading the race to sign James Rodriguez. The midfielder has struggled for consistent game time in the Spanish capital under Zinedine Zidane. So much so, he’s being linked with moves to all over Europe. With the backing of legendary Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, could the Colombian be swayed to move to Merseyside?

Ancelotti is a fan of James, with it widely known that he tried, on multiple occasions, to bring him to Napoli. Now, with the lure of the Premier League, can Carlo finally get his man?

James Rodriguez is effectively frozen out by Zidane.

James Rodriguez – What he once was

What a player he can be! A playful left foot and hawk-eyed vision, James Rodriguez may have been starved of playtime, but when he has made an appearance, James has shown his quality…

Bayern Munich Appearances (2017/18) – 23

Goals – 7

Assists – 11

Key Passes (per game) – 2.8

He plays in that attacking midfield role but can also be utilised on the right-hand side, using his world-class left boot to cut inside and open chances/have a shot at goal. His devilish trickery in the final third can be a nightmare for defenders and would be an asset at any club top club. If Everton can get the best out of him, we may see Rodriguez back to his best.

Still time left for 2014 World Cup star

Now 28-years-old, there is still time for Rodriguez to make a major statement in world football. Just five starts for Real Madrid this season won’t help him and he has to move if he is to truly make something of his career. Otherwise he’ll be known as a World Cup wonder. Not terrible, but for a player of his calibre there is more up to offer.

When a player like James Rodríguez comes available, you should do all you can to secure a deal. If Everton and Carlo Ancelotti can manage to make it work, they need to take James. A signing that would make an incredible statement to the rest of the league.
