According to Sports Mole, Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir. With Alisson in his prime, who exactly is Cakir, and what can he bring to Liverpool?
Injuries to both the Brazilian shot-stopper and Adrian have left Liverpool slightly tenuous in between the sticks; they have looked towards Cakir to perhaps provide a long term option to their goalkeeper position. Alongside Ferran Torres, this is a deal they want done in January. An interesting month coming up for Klopp…
Trabzonspor want at least £18m. Hardly bank breaking.
Ugurcan Cakir – Style Of Play
At 23 years of age, Ugurcan Cakir has already proved himself in top European competition – featuring for Trabzonspor in the Europa League three times this season. His shot-stopping is supreme, and his surprising ability to catch efforts on goal, rather than parry them away, makes him one of the best goalkeepers in the game right now.
The absolute state of some of the saves in this video. Cat-like reflexes to say the least. For people that maybe don’t cast their eye on the Süper Lig all too often, he presents a risk. I am here to tell you that is not the case. He is, without doubt, one of the ten best goalkeepers in the world right now. £18m is really looking like a steal.
However, the core demand in a goalkeeper is his ability ON the ball. Ugurcan Cakir has shown signs of his competence in possession, but he does occasionaly get caught out. Unexcusable when you come to the Premier League.
Should Liverpool manage to bring Cakir to the club in January, it would not surprise if we saw him give Alisson a run for his money. He really is a top talent and one that I personally can’t wait to see on the highest of stages.
