Jadon Sancho: How much would Dortmund star cost?

At the time, Jadon Sancho made a shock decision to reject Manchester City’s contract offer seemed ridiculous. An 18 year old demanding first team football rather than learning in the school of Pep Guardiola. It was ambitious, bold but also high risk. Fast forward 2 years, saying this move has paid off would be the understatement of the century.

Hitting the ground running

The 12 games in 2017/18 showed signs of the special talent Sancho possessed. But the winger truly burst onto the scene and announced himself to the world in 2018/19. Pace, flair, skills, dribbling but most impressive of all, END PRODUCT. Settling into Bundesliga life took no time at all for the England international with a ridiculous 26 goal contributions in 34 appearances. World class numbers from a teenager, truly sensational.

Jadon Sancho’s 2018/19 stats:

Appearances: 34

Goals: 12

Assists: 14

Just one season with Die Borussen and Europe’s elite were in awe of Sancho. Manchester United met with his agent, according to sporting director Michael Zorc, and various reports are now linking him to Liverpool. However, the Watford youth product has remained at the Westfalenstadion and has already proved he is not a one season wonder.

2 goals and 4 assists in just 4 matches, the trailblazer‘s meteoric rise has carried over to 2019/20. Not to mention, he has 2 goals and an assist for England in 3 games. Anyone that wanted Sancho in the summer will probably now have to pay another £30-40 million more now. The Dortmund hierarchy will be licking their lips over their £8 million signing in 2017. Ridiculous profit could be made.

Asking price for Jadon Sancho:

So how much will a Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City or any of Europe’s elite sides have to pay to get the Englishman out of black and yellow? It’s not going to be pretty that’s for sure…

Sancho would walk into the starting XI of any side in world football. But he currently seems happy in Germany and winning more silverware to break the Bayern monopoly of domestic dominance could convince him to stay. Given the current state of the market, I reckon Dortmund could demand upwards of £120 million for their prized asset.

If they managed to get £100 million for Ousmane Dembele, Jadon Sancho is surely worth at least £20-30 million more with price inflation from the likes of Joao Felix as well as having a greater output than the Frenchman did in his sole season for BVB. Moreover, multiple clubs interested and a potential bidding war will just add to the asking price. Sancho himself could command a high signing on fee, astronomical wages and plenty of bonuses. The bank will most definitely have to be broken for this generational talent.
