Frank Lampard: Chelsea boss dominates October

October’s Manager of the month award went to Frank Lampard after Chelsea won all 3 of their Premier League matches. The former Derby boss collected the award for the first time in his career and is hoping to take the Blues’ form into the international break. With results going their way, we could see them move up to 2nd place. Hardly the catastrophic season many were predicting for the London side.

Lampard’s side impressed, scoring 4 goals in each of their 2 Premier League away games in October. Strong performances came from academy products Tomori, Abraham and Mount alongside US international Christian Pulisic who bagged a hat-trick against Burnley. Now, Chelsea find themselves in 4th place. Saturday’s early kick off against Crystal Palace is their next fixture. A fixture they would expect to take all 3 points in.

Frank Lampard – Manager Material?

The Chelsea boss is the first manager to take the award off either Klopp or Guardiola since January when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came to the rein at Manchester United. Lampard saw off competition from Brendan Rodgers, and Dean Smith alongside Brighton’s Graham Potter.

Lampard’s fortunes could be extended, with academy product Reece James snatching a last minute equaliser against Ajax in the Champions League. There could be even more good news for the club’s record scorer as N’golo Kante is back in training. This is coming at a good time for Lampard as there is doubt over Mason Mount’s involvement in the weekend’s clash against the Eagles, due to fitness concerns.

What has impressed critics about Chelsea’s young manager is the identity he has created. Both Solskjær and Unai Emery have been heavily criticised for failing to establish a style of play. Yet Lampard, within the space of months, already looks like he has a vision for the side. Perhaps this transfer ban was a blessing in disguise for The Blues.

The mood at the club hasn’t been better for a long time. Neutrals have also suddenly started liking Chelsea, because of Lampard’s project in London. They finally look like a club with a stable, long term vision.
