Why Arsenal need Champions League football to keep Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is without doubt one of the deadliest strikers in world football today. Top scorer in the Bundesliga. Top scorer in the Premier League. He’s already started 2019/20 with a bang with 8 goals in 11 games. The Gabonese international is dragging his side to wins and draws, arguably keeping Unai Emery in a job. But if Arsenal fail to make the Top 4 or win the Europa League, there’s a good chance he’ll leave, for CHEAP.

According to El Chiringuito (via Sky Sports), the former Dortmund striker has a clause in his contract where if the Gunners fail to get Champions League football, he can leave the Emirates for a set price. The striker has been linked to a plethora of top European sides in the past. The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and most recently a move to China.

As of current, Arsenal sit 5th in the Premier League table, but 6 points away from 4th place. The pressure is really piling on Emery, with fans beginning to turn on the Spaniard. The strong links to Jose Mourinho aren’t doing him or the team any favours. At this point, it almost seems inevitable he won’t be manager of the side by the end of the season. The Xhaka incident may have taken the spotlight off him for 2 weeks. But now it’s back on.

Despite being 30 years of age, Aubameyang is not showing any signs of slowing down. The pace, the movement, the finishing, it’s all on point. But individual brilliance can’t keep bailing the former PSG manager out. You only have to look at the last few results to see.

Will Arsenal be able to make Top 4 despite their poor start to the season? I personally don’t see it happening considering how well the likes of Leicester and Chelsea are playing.
