Emre Can’s career hasn’t gone as planned. An incredible trophy cabinet, yes. But in terms of his development as a player, the German probably expected better since his move to Italy. From an important part of Liverpool’s squad, to now being surplus to requirements at Juventus. A lot can happen in a year in football, even Adrien Rabiot is out favour despite joining just months before. Now, he could potentially be on his way back to England or the French capital.
The midfielder has essentially been given the green light to leave Turin, after being left out of Maurizio Sarri’s Champions League squad. Manchester United have been given a boost for his signature according to the Daily Mail. However they are set to face competition for Can from PSG and Bayern.
It’s easy to forget that he’s still only 25 years old, so with his current abilities and potential for development, signing him in January could be a great signing for whoever gets him:
Can’s Physical qualities
Can has all the attributes to become a top player. Physically, he’s a beast in midfield. 6ft tall, a great turn of pace, strength with an incredible engine. It’s no surprise he breezes past opposition players in the video, shrugging them off with ease on most occasions. The energy he brings to a side, to drive a team forward or run back to defend, it’s any manager’s dream.
The German international is the epitome of versatile. Central midfielder, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger, fullback, wingback, centre back. Need I say more? The guy fits in anywhere!
But in terms in technical ability too, the former Liverpool midfielder doesn’t fall short. He does everything well, not exceptional, but well. A good passer, long distance shooting, strong tackler, fast in transition. He’s the definition of box to box. Last season for the Bianconeri, Can averaged 1.1 shots and 0.7 key passes per game. Whilst defensively, 2.2 tackles and 1 interception per game. Very balanced, the perfect squad player for any side.
Inconsistency has perhaps prevented him from the being first name on the team sheet. But the talent is there with Emre Can, no doubt about it. With faith from a manager, he could prove to be a core part of whichever side he joins.
