The sheer dependence on Wilfried Zaha by Crystal Palace for last few seasons has taken its toll on the winger. Constantly expected to create magic, work off scraps from an average midfield to then have his cross missed by Christian Benteke, a man who has scored 4 goals in 3 years. You can’t blame the Ivorian for wanting out.
The Ivorian international has not made it secret that he wants to leave Selhurst park. Yet could the Eagles inspire him to stay with an exciting signing?
The Scottish Sun are reporting that the London side are preparing a £20 million bid for Alfredo Morelos in January. The Rangers striker has been sensational since arriving in Scotland 2 years ago. The league’s top scorer in 2018/19, he’s been linked with moves away from Ibrox.
Despite Steven Gerrard being insistent that the Colombian will stay in Glasgow, he could be tempted with a move to the Premier League. Here’s what he would bring to Palace:
If you had to describe Morelos in 2 words, ‘BOX OFFICE’ comes to mind. We’ll start with the positives. His goal record has been sensational since signing from HJK in 2017.
Alfredo Morelos’ stats for Rangers (ALL COMPETITIONS:
2017/18: 43 games, 18 goals, 6 assists
2018/19: 48 games, 30 goals 4 assists
2019/20 (SO FAR): 18 games, 14 goals
The 5ft 10 striker has a good turn of pace, which coupled with his immense physicality, makes him such a versatile forward. As you can see above, he bags a decent number of assists along side goals, emphasising his ability to play the role of provider too.
Morelos is very skillful too. In the video below, he effortlessly cuts back on numerous occasions, flicks the ball over defenders, chops, ball rolls, you name it. This technical ability, coupled with his flair and physical attributes makes him such a dangerous forward.
However, alongside the many positives, there are two sides to the Colombian international. The title of the video says it all: A crazy striker. Morelos is notorious for having a temper and getting in trouble.
Last season, he was booked 10 times and sent off an astonishing 4 times. 4 red cards, and he STILL got top scorer. Perhaps that’s a testament to his quality, imagine if he was eligible for every game.
A nutcase no doubt, but the Rangers forward looks like a special player and definitely box office for the neutral. If he doesn’t lose his head, he is capable of producing that magic moment that Zaha has been doing for so long. In my opinion, he could be a great signing for Palace.
