He’s the country’s ‘golden boy’, tipped to be our next great number 9. A ridiculous scoring record for Spurs, leading the line for England and a player with a relentless pursuit of goals. Yet due to recent antics, is Harry Kane losing this perfect image that many hold him to?
Granted Arsenal, West Ham and Chelsea fans couldn’t hate the Tottenham frontman more, from my perspective, it seemed like neutrals had a soft spot for him. The humble attitude, his performances for England in the World Cup and the quality of his finishing. Perhaps it’s just me, but I found it difficult to dislike Kane, other neutrals may think otherwise.
However the North London Derby opened the eyes of many, including myself, to a different side to Kane. One not so good on the eye – diving.
The number of players that dive in the modern game is shameful and they rightfully get hounded on social media, potentially receiving a retrospective fine/suspension. The former Millwall loanee executed his tumble well enough to fool the referee but not the masses watching at home. Leaning into the other player before falling to the floor. Awful.
Then watching it back with Geoff Shreeves, he still claims ‘he’d get it on the halfway line’. It’s honestly pathetic. What’s worse is the 26 year old will get away without a fine, suspension or anything, meaning that he’ll continue doing it. FA bias towards their ‘golden boy’ and star England striker? It sure seems like it…
