Patrice Evra announced his retirement from football yesterday aged 38 after an illustrious career where he won 21 trophies. But in a video released by Soccer AM today, the former Manchester United fullback reveals how he left Old Trafford in stranger circumstances than once thought.
In the Autocomplete Challenge below at 22 minutes, where Evra answers the most searched questions about him, the Frenchman explained how Woodward wanted him to stay on, exercising the option to extend the defender’s deal.
However, due to family reasons, the former Juventus left back wanted to leave the Theatre of Dreams, shaking hands with Woodward on the matter who ‘respected his decision’.
Yet Evra subsequently revealed how United’s executive vice-chairman extended the deal despite their gentleman’s agreement. Woodward has been at the centre of widespread criticism from Red Devils fans over his transfer policy and lack of football knowledge for the role he currently has at the club.
