After over a decade at the Emirates, Aaron Ramsey has now officially left North London.
The Welshman has been a loyal servant to Arsenal since his move from Cardiff in 2008. From his tireless work as a box to box midfielder to the spectacular goals and assists creating everlasting memories (here’s one), Ramsey has been a joy to watch in English football.
When people think of the talented midfielder many moments spring to mind, both highs and lows. His horrific leg break, the two FA Cup winning goals and of course his professionalism during a time where his future has remained uncertain.
Now, the 28-year-old’s next destination is Turin, where he will entertain the Juventus faithful and hope to be a valuable asset for Maurizio Sarri’s side. It’s safe to say, a move to the Bianconeri is a huge upgrade (I mean he’s going from playing alongside Iwobi to Ronaldo). Here’s what Ramsey has to offer:
The Euro 2016 semi-finalist epitomises the word industrious. From doing his defensive duties to being lethal in the final third, he never stops running through the 90 minutes. In 2013/14 (Ramsey’s best season), he touched the ball 1115 times, more than any other player in the league.
With Blaise Matuidi and Sami Khedira aging, Ramsey will provide the energy in midfield that will allow Juventus to transition quickly and release their devastating front line. Essentially, he’ll be the Old Lady’s engine room.
As mentioned earlier, Ramsey is well rounded and is capable defensively alongside the attacking threat he possesses.
Not afraid to take one for the team, the midfielder doesn’t shy away from a challenge, giving him some characteristics of a defensive midfielder while having the technical ability that makes him so dangerous in the final third. There’s a reason he made the most tackles out of any central midfielder in the Premier League in 2013/14 (57).
If Emre Can has over committed, you can put your money on Ramsey running back to make a last ditch tackle.
The 2 time FA Cup winner has been a vital cog in the Gunners’ build ups and attacks every season he has played.
Whether he is starting off the move with a key pass or finishing it off with a beautiful finish, Ramsey has been integral to Arsenal’s attacks and will do the same in Turin.
Of course most Arsenal fans remember the Welshman for his moments of magic during the 10 years he has spent in North London.
The long shots, the volleys, the flicks and of course the crucial game winning goals. When you least expect it, Ramsey will come up with a piece of individual brilliance to change the complexion of a game. The ‘spectacular’ needs no explaining, just watch the video above.
At the end of the day, Aaron Ramsey is a great signing for both the player and Juve. To acquire him without paying a penny in transfer fees means the risk is small if not non-existent.
Will he start every week? Probably not because of the midfield talent the Bianconeri have. But squad depth is key, especially if you want to win the Champions League.
Injury record and inconsistency aside, we’re confident he’ll do well in Turin…
