After weeks of speculation and negotiation, Manchester United have finally secured the signature of one of Europe’s best young right backs.
The Red Devils agreed a fee of £50 million with Crystal Palace for Wan Bissaka earlier today after having multiple bids rejected by the Eagles. The Englishman will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and become the Norwegian’s second signing of the season after Welsh winger Daniel James signed for £15 million a couple of weeks ago.
The defender burst onto the scene in 2018/19, becoming one of the league’s best fullbacks as the season went on. Wingers struggled to beat AWB, whose effective positioning and tackling made him one of last season’s standout performers.
An incredible stat from Squawka epitomises why the Crystal Palace youth academy graduate is a winger’s worst nightmare. Only 9 individuals were able to dribble past him in his 35 appearances last season. That’s astonishing especially for someone as young as Wan-Bissaka.
Right back has been issue at Old Trafford over the last couple of seasons. Despite reinventing himself in the last few years, Antonio Valencia experienced a sharp decline, whilst Ashley Young was clearly completely out of his depth. Diogo Dalot has potential, but competition from United’s new £50 million signing will bring the best out of both players.
