The German had a successful time in Bavaria winning 3 Bundesliga titles, the DVB Pokal and 3 DFL Supercups. Yet over the last 2 seasons, Hummels was not at his best for the German champions alongside national team compatriot Jerome Boateng.
As part of Bayern’s rebuild with younger players, the 30 year old was not deemed good enough by Niko Kovac and his teammate Boateng is also expected to leave this season, officially confirmed by Uli Hoeness
Lucian Favre’s Dortmund side were exceptional last season, mounting their best title challenge for several years and taking the Bayern juggernaut all the way down to the wire in the Bundesliga, only falling 2 points short of the title.
They have already shown they are not intending to slow down or settle for 2nd place with some of their acquisitions in this summer transfer window thus far. The likes of Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt were purchased using the money reinvested from the Christian Pulisic transfer highlight how effectively the club is being run.
