Mats Hummels to make shock return to Borussia Dortmund
According to Sky Sports, the Bayern Munich defender is in ‘advanced talks’ with his former club and a fee somewhere in the region of £30m is expected.
The World Cup winner only featured 21 times last season in Munich’s and has found it difficult to stay fit as well as keep up with Nikolas Süle and Jérôme Boateng, so a move away from Bavaria seems like a good option. At 30-years-old, Hummels still has a couple of years left in his prime and if Lucien Favre is to bolster his side for another stab at the title, the central-defender is a good place to start.
£60 million for Issa Diop – is Ole panic-buying?
After missing out on multiple CB targets already, with De Ligt looking to be heading to Paris and Leicester wanting a record-breaking £90 million for Harry Maguire, Ole has his eyes on West Ham’s Issa Diop.
According to Sky Sports, United are willing to offer £45 million + a mystery player in order to secure Diop’s services, but West Ham are holding out for around £60 million, as they feel this reflects his true value in today’s market.
Last summer, here at Taste of Football, we highlighted Diop as one to watch in an article that shed light on a handful of U21 stars who were bound to have an impact in the season just passed. The Frenchman has been able to progress well under the tutelage of Manuel Pellegrini and the Chilean will want to hold onto Diop, in order to help build the foundations for West Ham breaking into the Top 6.
If United are able to force through the deal, despite West Ham stating the player is not for sale, it may face scrutiny from the old-heads in the game, but at just 22 years old, Diop has the potential to develop into a key player for the Mancunians, and it would be interesting to monitor his progress, if he takes that next step up, into European football.
Suso to London?
After a disappointing stint at Liverpool that was followed by redemption with AC Milan, Suso could be returning to the Premier League.
The Spanish international has put his career back on track with the Rossoneri with 46 goal contributions in 104 league games. His successful 4 year spell in Italy has attracted interest from West Ham and Spurs, who are both expected to spend substantial money this summer.
According to Calciomercato, the Hammers and the Lilywhites want the winger and will pay out his £35 million release clause, with both clubs set to spend large sums of money this summer.
Further reports from Calciomercato suggest Suso is demanding €6 million per season which is outside of Milan’s budget, especially considering they are trying to sell off some of their prized assets. So it’s becoming increasingly likely the Spaniard will leave, but will Tottenham be able to afford him with their existing tight wage structure and stadium debts?
