After days of anticipation for the announcement, Real Madrid have finally confirmed the acquisition of Ferland Mendy from Olympique Lyon.
The fee is £45 million and Mendy will be the latest edition to a Los Blancos side going through a significant rebuild phase under Zinedine Zidane. The likes of Luka Jovic, Eder Militao and most recently Eden Hazard have put the Spanish side’s total spending this summer period to astronomical sum of over €300 million
The French left back has had a meteoric rise in the last two years of his career, playing in Ligue 2 for Le Havre as recently as 2017 before signing for Lyon for just €5 million, giving the French side a substantial profit.
At 24 years of age, he is one of the best options on the market in his position, with 3 international caps for France and over 30 appearances for Les Gones last season.
Madrid look like a frightening force for the upcoming 2019/20 season, a stark contrast to last season where the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo led to a hugely chaotic and underwhelming season that saw 3 managers take the helm at the Bernabeu
With the amount of signings they’ve already made and potentially more to come, including the prospect of Paul Pogba, a treble could be beckoning.
