Another transfer, another young Porto defender. This time the talent in question is none other than Éder Militão. The powerful Brazilian is adept in either full-back position but most comfortable in the heart of the defence.
After arriving at Porto from Brazilian giants São Paulo in the summer, the aerially dominant Militão has already torn up enough trees to get him a move to the Spanish capital with Los Blancos this summer. He will sign on a six-year contract running until June 2025.
What Would He Bring?
Standing at six foot one, the twenty-year-old already possesses Champions League and international experience, including his first European goal against Schalke and making his first senior appearance for Brazil against El Salvador)
Éder hasn’t missed a game for 2018 champions Porto, and you can see why. Averaging nearly two interceptions a game, Os Dragões’ number three is more than able to step out the back and start attacks. Making over fifty passes a game, it’s clear to see that Porto head coach Sérgio Conceição has faith in the young Brazilian.
Despite Conceiçao’s confidence in the young centre-half, I see it differently. He looks shaky, uncomfortable on his weaker left foot and occasionally nervous under pressure. This can be backed up by the fact that he has completed only one dribble in Liga Nos this season, and averages five clearances per game. That’ll agitate the Bernabeu crowd, who are so used to seeing Sergio Ramos walk out of defence so comfortably with the ball
Nevertheless for a rumoured €50m (yes that’s considered cheap nowadays), Real Madrid would be getting a versatile central-defender with bags of potential and someone that could be integral to Los Blancos’ back-line for the foreseeable future.
