DEADLINE DAY: Wolves deal for Sardar Azmoun falls through

Alongside making Jonny’s loan move to Molineux permanent for £18 million, Wolves were looking towards adding the so-called Iranian Messi to their ranks. Yet the deal has failed to materialise

The Wanderers were in talks with Rubin Kazan for striker Sardar Azmoun, initially on loan with an option to buy in the summer.

According to Sky Sports, the two sides were discussing a £1.75 million loan fee with an option to buy for £11.4 million in the summer. However, Kazan’s preference for an obligation to buy Azmoun put the Premier League side off.

The Iranian has performed well in the Russian league with 8 goal contributions in 14 games. His displays in the AFC Asian Cup haven’t gone unnoticed too, with 4 goals and 1 assist in 6 games instrumental in helping Iran reach the semi-final.
