Life in England hadn’t been too great for Michy Batshuayi since joining Chelsea from Marseille for just over £30m in 2016. One and a half seasons in South West London and the Belgian had made 37 appearances in all competitions, 31 of them coming from the bench. Talk about a bit part player.
A loan move to Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window of the 17/18 season proved successful for the Belgian youngster. 9 goals in 14 games gave the forward confidence in himself once again; social media posts by Michy showcasing his positivity whilst in Germany gave Chelsea fans the belief that he could return and play a vital role in Sarri’s first season.
Sarri had other plans and sent the youngster to Valencia on loan. This did not go to plan. 1 goal in 15 games, whilst playing a bit-part role in the Spanish side meant the loan was cut short as it didn’t prove useful for either parties.
According to The Guardian, West Ham have expressed an interest in taking him on loan, but Chelsea are looking to recuperate the £33 million they paid Marseille in the summer of 2016. Everton seem to be the frontrunners for taking the Belgian in permanently, but nothing official has been submitted by either West Ham or Everton. Both clubs are in need of a No.9 but it will ultimately come down where Michy wants to go…
