Gueye hands in transfer request
Idrissa Gana Gueye has handed in a transfer request at Everton amid interest from PSG, according to Sky Sports.
The midfielder, who has been at Goodison Park since his move from Aston Villa in 2016, has asked the club to let him secure his ‘dream move’ to Paris despite signing a contract extension in February 2018. With PSG set to lose Rabiot either in the coming days or in the summer, Thomas Tuchel needs a replacement and the Parisians have been linked with Gueye as well as Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The French Champions have also reportedly had a £21.5 million bid rejected by the Toffees, who have slumped to 11th in the table under an increasingly under pressure Marco Silva.
It’s understandable the Senegalese international wants a move to a big club. At 29, he is at the peak of his powers (a staggering 4.2 tackles per game this season) and perhaps an opportunity like this won’t be offered again in his career. The potential to win silverware (even if it is in a farmer’s league) is far greater in France than in Merseyside for Gueye…
Juventus looking at Chelsea defender
With just one Premier League appearance and game time only coming in cup competitions this season, it may be wise for Andreas Christensen has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.
The Dane was a prominent figure in Antonio Conte’s back line last season, impressing Blues fans with his composure and helping them win the FA Cup. Yet from one Italian manager to another, Christensen has fallen in the Chelsea defenders pecking order especially with Maurizio Sarri’s opposition to drastic team changes.
According to reports from Calciomercato, Juventus are interested in the former Brondby youth team player as a long term successor to their ageing backline. Similarly, with links Matthijs De Ligt, the Bianconeri are reportedly looking for young defenders to partner up with Danielle Rugani in the foreseeable future, which may interest the Danish international.
Christensen may be open to a move to Turin, especially with Antonio Rudiger (25) and David Luiz (31) still relatively young compared to Chiellini (34), putting him higher up the pecking order. He certainly has potential and ability, it’s just a matter of whether he gets game time or not.
Jonny close to permanent Wolves move
After signing him on loan from Atlético Madrid at the start of the season, Wolves are closing in bringing Jonny to Molineux permanently.
The full-back has impressed manager Nuno Espirito Santo during his spell in England, playing 21 times for the Wanderers and helping the currently sit in 8th place, an impressive start to life back in the Premier League. The fee is rumoured to be in the region of £18 million, according to Sky Sports, despite only joining Los Rojiblancos 6 months ago from Celta Vigo.
This signing continues to show Wolves’ ambition and intent to achieve European football this season as well as the foundations they are laying to potentially challenge the Top 6 in the not too distant future.
