Despite the interest of Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus, AC Milan have secured the signature of a young Portuguese talent.
After capturing the signature of Krzysztof Piatek just days ago, The Rossoneri have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Tiago Djaló from Sporting Lisbon, fending off other top European clubs. The 18 year old has played for Sporting’s reserve team and their U19s, impressing in the back line.
There is not much information on the young talent, but we’ll give you as much information as we can:
Style of Play
As shown in the video, the 6ft 2 centre back is very comfortable at the ball (I mean he’s doing roulettes for goodness sake) and willing to come out of defence with it to begin an attack. The ability to be good with a ball at your feet is now an essential for a modern centre half.
The Portuguese’s passing seems to be on point too, from short one-twos to long balls up to the striker. His technique is as good as a midfielder.
Not to mention, he has all the physical attributes that a manager wants with a defender. Tall, difficult to push off the ball and very quick. Djalo’s style of play as well as his stature resembles the likes of Raphaël Varane and Kalidou Koulibaly, a huge compliment at his age.
One issue could be discipline. Although not shying away from a challenge is a good trait, Djalo’s tendency to slide into tackles frequently could be an issue. Don’t be surprised if he sees red more than once…
Also, his ability to be an asset offensively may hamper his defensive game, potentially leaving the defence exposed if he is out of position. Though both of these will come with time and under good coaching at the San Siro.
