Here it is, another transfer roundup as we get closer to Deadline Day…
Otamendi unhappy at Manchester City
Despite signing Jeison Murillo on loan from Valencia in December, Barcelona at reportedly looking towards Nicolas Otamendi to strengthen their depth at the back.
The Argentine has been a prominent figure at the back for City during his time at the Eithad. In his previous three seasons, he has in total made 94 Premier League appearances. Yet the arrival of Aymeric Laporte has limited
the former Porto defender to just 10 so far in 2018/19.
The Blaugrana could be lining up a move for the out of favour defender, who, Pep Guardiola has confirmed, is not happy with his lack of play time for the Cityzens. There are suggestions a move away for the former Valencia centre half would allow Guardiola to make a move for Ajax prospect Matthijs de Ligt.
At 30 years of age, Otamendi still has decent pace and is a competent defender. He’s good in the air whilst also being comfortable on the ball, something that is integral in a Barcelona side. While he may be mistake prone, he certainly wouldn’t be a bad signing at the Camp Nou.
Crystal Palace interested in Tosun
After arriving at Goodison Park for a hefty £27 million last January, it’s safe to say Cenk Tosun’s move hasn’t been a success.
The Turkish international has struggled to replicate the goal scoring form he had shown in the Süper Lig and the Champions League on Merseyside. A return of just 7 goals in 33 appearances for the Toffees has frustrated fans as well as manager Marco Silva.
Crystal Palace are keen to bring in a striker after they opted against a loan move for Dominic Solanke. The Eagles are rumoured to be interested in the former Besiktas striker, especially with Christian Benteke recovering from injury and Alexander Sørloth leaving on loan.
Despite Roy Hodgson’s desperation for a striker, a move to Selhurst Park looks to be unlikely for Tosun, with Everton already letting Oumar Niasse leave on loan to Cardiff. But if they manage to secure a replacement in the coming days, the Turkish international would be allowed to leave.
Gomes linked with move to Serie A
Bad news for Toffees fans, as Andre Gomes is subject of strong interest from the Italian capital.
The midfielder, currently on loan from Barcelona, has impressed during his time in the Premier League recapturing the form he showed at Valencia that earned him a move to the Camp Nou in 2016.
His resurgence at Goodison Park has reached Serie A with rivals Roma and Lazio wanting the Portuguese international on a permanent deal. The Blaugrana would be willing to sell if they got a deal close to the
€35 million they forked out for him initially.
Everton wish to keep the 29 capped Portugal international permanently but face tough competition. If in demand midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić leaves the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio would step up their efforts to replace him with the Barcelona loanee.
