With an agreement made between Chelsea, Juventus as well as AC Milan, Gonzalo Higuain’s reunion with Maurizio Sarri is just hours away.
The Argentine has passed his medical at Stamford Bridge and is expected to be announced as a loan signing within the next few hours. The Blues will be required to pay near to £140,000 for the 31 year old Argentinian sharpshooter, who has been targeted in the Italian media for returning to the Serie A season a little overweight. The wages should matter little for Chelsea, who are in dire need of someone that can find the net on a consistent basis.
Despite just 6 goals in 15 games for the Rossoneri, there’s no doubt he has the ability to turn Chelsea’s misfortunes in front of goal around, especially under Sarri.
The 2015/16 season was one of Higuain’s finest, and it was Maurizio who managed to get the best out of him. His third and final year in Naples saw him score a staggering 36 league goals in 35 games, including what can only be described as ‘belters’.
What Does he Bring?
Standing at six-foot-one, Gonzalo Higuaín has the ability to strike the ball cleanly with both feet, making him unpredictable and, at times, impossible to stop. Despite the complaints about his weight, he is not lacking pace, often able to make short bursts into channels before, more often than not, striking the ball across the goalkeeper into the far corner. A trademark of sorts.
He also possesses a good awareness of teammates (averaging 1.4 key passes per game). This is something that will surely please both Sarri and dynamite Belgian Eden Hazard, who seems to be carrying the team on his back in recent weeks. This ability to find teammates in dangerous areas combined with the quality he has to hold the ball up without being dispossessed (loses the ball an average of 1.7 times per game) and we would see an arguably world-class striker joining The Blues ranks…
