What would Tanguy Ndombele bring to Juventus?

There’s no doubt about it; Tanguy Ndombele is the epitome of the modern-day incontrista.

We see many midfielders nowadays with the capability to bring the ball out of the back and slice through the opposition defence with inch-perfect passes. But Tanguy Ndombele is different. Whilst possessing supreme control and technique no different from a tricky wide-man, he still manages to retain that rough-edged, tough-tackling side to his game. It’s a fine-edged balance in modern football but, at 22 years of age, Ndombele has mastered it…

Beginning his career at newly-promoted Amiens SC, Ndombele only managed one season before Olympique Lyonnais came and snapped him up. He had led the relegation favourites to a respectable 13th position. He initially went on a loan to Lyon, but a permanent fee of around €10m was all but assured.

This season the Frenchman has been a mainstay in 3rd place Lyon’s starting eleven, forming a dynamic pivot with local talent Houssem Aouar. Ndombele so far has registered an average of two tackles and one interception per game this season, whilst also pulling his weight going forward: creating one goal scoring chance per game.

Should he join I Bianconeri, Ndombele would be a perfect understudy, come replacement, of the ageing Blaise Matuidi and would once again be a statement of intent from Juventus who once again aim to go all the way in the Champions League. With Ndombele and possibly even Isco, anything is possible…
